Pas d'école demain! Bonne fin de semaine les amis! There is a system wide PD on Friday, so NO SCHOOL for students tomorrow. See you all on Monday!
Today's Take Me Outside Challenge Highlights
Students enjoyed their walking field trip today. It was a beautiful -5 outside. They discussed their observations about structures and shapes and used some of this information to create a single track. The goal was to slide safetly in a straight line. We love taking our learning outdoors! Thanks to our volunteers, Barb and Wendy!
Walking Field Trip Tomorrow Be prepared with the right clothing (snowpants, winter jacket, long socks, winter boots, hat and mittens). We will go Research Park following our usual route. Julia's Blog Post
Today in gym we practiced doing our skills in hockey. We also got to play a game. Today was fun! Pink Shirt Day Stand up against bullying and wear a pink shirt tomorrow. Together we can choose kindness and we STOP bullying! March Scholastic Orders Due Date: March 4th Did you know that every time you order a book from Scholastics our classroom earns reward points? Yes, it's true and these points are then used to build our classroom library. Please help us build our library buy ordering some books. We appreciate it! Les matrices et la multiplication
Aujourd'hui nous avons pratiqué nos multiplications 1 à 5. Nous avons aussi appris comment utiliser les matrices. Students explored arrays and the writing their multiplication tables 1 - 5. Can you guess the array that students created with their bodies? It's 3 x 3. School Hours
This is a friendly reminder that school begins promptly at 8:00 am. Please ensure that your child is on time for school. This means arriving before the bell. Portable 3 students often have Physical Education and Music beginning at 8:05 am. When students arrive after this time they are missing important instruction and are causing disruptions during M Trevor and Mme Zdrill's lessons. Students are also arriving to these classes with their boots and backpacks, causing further disruptions. There is also confusion for the students when they arrive late, as they will often walk out to the portable and no one is there. I understand that the weather can sometimes affect your commute, however your attention to this matter is appreciated. Merci! Spirit Day Come dressed as your favourite book character tomorrow! I wonder what Mme Ireland will come dressed as? ÉTUDES SOCIALES Students are finishing up the unit on Peru. We had a final discussion on the similarities and differences between Peru and Canada. Students will use these discussion points to write a final reflection on Quality of Life. The question they will reflect on is: Que pensez vous à propos du qualité de vie au Pérou? Aimerais-tu visité le Pérou? Oui ou non, et pourquoi?
SPIRIT DAYS The Yearbook Club has organized some fun theme days. See the dates below and show your Varsity Spirit by dressing up on these days. There is also PINK SHIRT Day on February 27th. Kindness is one size fits all! JOURNÉE DE PATINAGE Une belle journée dehors! What a great day of outdoor skating. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped tie skates.
ELA/FLA Nous avons découvrit qu'il y a beaucoup de régularités dans une histoire de Robert Munsch. We are discovering that there are many patterns in Robert Munsch stories. There is a lot of repetition and there is a lot of ONOMATOPOEIA. We see evidence of this in both his english and french books. Ask me what this means! REMINDER that tomorrow is SKATING at the VCC rink. We are skating from 1:15 - 2:OO pm. Students will only be allowed on the ice if they have skates and a CSA approved helmet. NO bike helmets will be permitted. There will be alternate activities for those students who do not have skates. Wednesday's Carnaval Highlights
PHOEBE'S BLOG POST Today we had a video chat with Mme Ireland's friend Melissa. She lives in Quebec City and she helps organize many of the activities and spectacles during Carnaval. Did you know that today, Bonhomme gave his team the day off because of the BIG STORM! We had so much fun during our parade and snow bath! My Heart is Full - Writing Project Inspired by the "Nature Song", students wrote about what makes their heart full. The 3 cut out hearts are embellished with a series of sentences and the central heart showcases each student's personal creativity and sentiments. NO SCHOOL Due to Teacher's Convention and the Family Day Long Weekend, there is no school on :
HAVE A WONDERFUL FAMILY DAY LONG WEEKEND! I HOPE YOU GET OUTSIDE TO PLAY! Demain c'est le défilé de Carnaval Our class theme for the parade is: Joie de vivre! Students are invited to wear a "bathing suit" overtop of their winter clothing. The "Polar Bear Dip and Snow Bath" are two traditions at the Quebec Carnaval. By wearing our "bathing suits" overtop of our winter clothes, we will demonstrate the "joie de vivre" of French Canadians, the heartiness of all Canadians who brave the winter months and we will celebrate two iconic events at Carnaval. SKATING is RE-SCHEDULED for next week. We will now skate on Wednesday, February 20th at 1:15 pm.
