WINTER WALK UPDATE Demain c'est notre march d'hiver! Nous partons a 8h05 le matin. Soyez prêts pour une température froid. Please dress warmly for our morning walk. It will be cold and there is still snow on the ground. One of our activities will be on the ground so snow pants are a VERY GOOD IDEA! We look forward to our "outdoor classroom" time! FILL THE BOX FOOD DRIVE There are only a few days left to help fill the boxes in the front hall of the school for the Mayor's Food Drive. Help make every Calgarians Christmas a bit brighter. Merci! THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! We have enough to go on our Winter Walk on Thursday! Please be dressed for cool temperatures in the morning boys and girls! The expected temperature in the morning is a cool ZERO degrees and you will be outside for 3 hours!!!
Snowpants is probably a VERY good idea as you will want to roll around on the ground! IRIS UPDATE Students have placed some new artifacts in Iris and are ready to share their learning with you. Please log on using their student number and password (they should have it memorized) Éducation Physique Aujourd'hui en éducation physique nous avons rencontré John Leslie Paralympien en planche à neige. Merci John! C'était très amusant! Parents - Please inform Mme Ireland via email if your child will be away from school this week (starting winter vacation early). Merci!
Music Share is an opportunity for students to “show and tell” their musical interests and/or talents. Students can play a musical instrument, make a music video, create a music track using their favourite app, or share a favourite song. A short presentation about an instrument, genre or artist is also acceptable. Students will have time to share at least one piece each. This activity will run from January 14th to 31st. Due to the number of students participating in this activity, it would be appreciated if submissions were received no later than January 10th. This will allow time for us to peruse song lyrics and video content as well as schedule student time for sharing. If your child wishes to participate, please reply by email or print and send in the form below with details about your child’s selection. Forms/emails must be submitted by January 10th. Merci! Mme Zdrill Please bring a plastic shopping bag to school on Friday so the Rangoli art project can come home safely. The projects are delicate and need some kind of covering before going into dossiers and backpacks. Merci! Ask me what was so funny about the story and what important message the story conveyed. SCIENCE - Bat Presentation Over the last two days, students have had the pleasure of meeting Nancy "the little brown bat" and her caretaker Mme. Wendy. Students learned all kinds of interesting information about bats, echolocation and the many myths surrounding bats. Did you know that bat are afraid of humans and we are their number one enemy? - Phoebe Did you know that some bats are nocturnal? - Julia Did you know that desert bats eat scorpions? - David A. Did you know that bats aren't actually blind like the saying goes? - Kira We love bats and thing they are pretty neat! Journée PYJAMA demain!!! Monthly Walking Field Trip - www.volunteersignup.org/EC49P We are still looking for 2 volunteers to join us on our Welcome Winter Walking Field Trip on Thursday, December 20th. If you can spare the morning 8:05 - 11:35 am to help us out, we would surely appreciate it! You can sign up on the link above. Please ensure you have valid security clearance. ELA - Circle Stories We are using a planning sheet to organize our ideas. Each story must have two characters, an animal and a little boy or little girl. The animal is always wanting something! They are so bossy! When were done using our planning sheet, we share with a partner before showing it to Mme Ireland for editing. We are also learning how to edit our own work using a RUBRIC. We are excited to share our stories with you! ÉTUDES SOCIALES Students compared the Peruvian flag with Canada's Flag today and discovered there are some similarities and differences. What do you notice? One of the outcomes in grade 3 social studies is to demonstrate an ability to communicate, analyze and synthesize information. By using comparison as a tool, students are exploring these concepts and making connections to communities around the world. David's Blog Post I like turtles. This week we are learning about Peru. We also did some skits about "generosity". Vowel Work - Today we looked at Uu. Can you find the short and long u sounds in each of these poems? MATH - Show me the money!
Students have been working at "money" centers all week. They have been practicing recognizing values, skip counting by 5, 10, 25 and 100 and have been finding a number of solutions to problems. |
