La course Terry Fox! Un grand sucèss. Bravo Varsity! Students chose to dedicate their run today to someone important to them. We saw lots of Terry Fox, M Murray and family member dedications. We had another story about Olemaun and the story was called "Not My Girl", by Margaret Pokiak-Fenton and Christy Fenton. "We have read four stories about residential schools and two of them were written by the same author. One of them is about when Olemaun went to school and the other is about when she came back. I noticed that when she went home she wasn't remembered by her mother. She got her hair cut and was wearing different clothes". - Maggie As students explore the concept of reconciliation, they are beginning to understand the importance of sharing stories, respecting the rights of others and developing relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. We are looking to forward to ORANGE SHIRT DAY on Monday, October 1st. Please wear orange because Every Child Matters! Études Sociales Je suis Canadien/Canadienne! MATH Today in math, we were comparing increasing and decreasing patterns. We looked for similarities and differences between pairs of patterns and discussed our findings in groups of four. We then created our own increasing and decreasing patterns and wrote the pattern rule for each. Ask me what " À partir de __?__, ajoute __?__ chaque fois" and "à partir de __?__, enlève ___?___ chaque fois" means. .Aujourd'hui c'était le dernier jour de pratique pour la course Terry Fox. Stay tuned for more info! Journal Reflections We enjoyed spending time writing in our journals in English and reflecting on Phyllis and Olemaun's stories about life in residential schools. The stories are sad, but we know that they need to be told. Learning from the past to make sure it is never repeated is an important step towards reconciliation. This is a very BIG word that we are exploring in class. As the week goes on, we will be reading more stories to help us understand its meaning and importance. Maybe we can have a conversation at home about it too? Student reflection Student Reflection DAVID's BLOG POST The Outdoor Learning Space fences came down today. Now it is open for learning outside. I am feeling good about it. I am looking forward to learning about stuff outside. Orange Shirt Day Today Mme Ireland read a story about Orange Shirt Day. Burrr! It was a chilly one today, but we managed to get through our first Fire Drill of the year safely and following school expectations. We learned that being quiet, walking single file, making our way to the meeting spot and returning to the build in silence keeps everyone safe. We also learned that wearing a "hoodie" or "sweater" at school will keep us warm when we have to go outside unexpectedly. Parents: please send your child to school in layers for comfort and safety. Merci! |
