La grande "Vente de garage" Annual Varsity Acres Garage Sale On May 10th, students from rooms 9, 15, 20 and 21 will be organizing a garage sale for Varsity Acres School students. Grade 4 students will be collecting your unwanted gently used toys, games, puzzles, costumes and accessories, DVDs and books. These items can be donated daily up until May 9th. There will be a box provided in each classroom for the collection of your donated items. This is a great way to empty your toy box during spring cleaning, refill it with “new” toys, and to help the environment by keeping things out of the landfill. Instead of throwing away your old toys they can be reused and treasured by someone new. At the same time, you will be helping a good cause. The profits of our sale will go towards the organization “WE”, with the focus on providing clean water sources and sanitation facilities to villages in need in countries such as Kenya, China and Ecuador. Please feel free to visit their website at www.we.org. Please note, any toys not sold during the garage sale will be donated to Goodwill. On May 10th, the grade 4 students will set up stations in the gym to sell all donated toys. Prices for items will range from $0.10 to $2.00. We encourage each child to bring a reusable bag to carry any purchases they make. Thank you so much for your support. The Grade 4 Teachers and Students ARE YOU PREPARED? The weather is looking quite rainy and chilly for our walking field trip, but don't fret, we go rain or shine and with some proper planning and preparation, your child will be well equipped for the day. There will be a bus for warming up, half way and staff will make decisions regarding student safety and comfort as needed throughout the day. Did you know that the first year Mme Ireland did this trip it rained, snowed and was sunny in the same day? Below is a photo gallery of the clothing and items your child should bring for tomorrow's trip. Layering is key to a successful day outdoors! Tall wool socks (plus an extra pair), rubber boots, t-shirt, a hoodie or fleece on top, track pants or warm leggings on the bottom, raincoat, rain pants(if you have them), a toque and gloves, sunglasses (if you have them), a filled water bottle, a hearty lunch and plenty of snacks. Students may also bring a compact umbrella if they wish and will be responsible for carrying their own water bottle, lunch and backpack. If you have any questions, please contact Mme Ireland directly. Merci! We still need one more volunteer for the Bridge Tour this Thursday. If you have current volunteer clearance and would like to spend the day with us looking at Calgary's Cool Bridges, please sign up using the following link. volunteersignup.org/EC49P Without the appropriate supervision, PT3 students will have to cancel this trip. Merci!
FLA - Le temps des sucres et La lune d'érable
M Sean our student teacher has been hard at work planning lessons for students with a focus on French language comprehension, vocabulary building and story elements. Since Mme Ireland loves maple syrup and spring is sugar bush time, the theme is quite fitting. Today, students engaged in a "carousel" activity. Ask them to tell you more about it. They also grew their vocabulary with words like: recueilli, la sève, entaillaient, hachette, transvidait. Bravos les amis! Fundraising with Flowers Thank you VAS Parent Fundraising Society for coming up with such a great idea! I've already made my selections and I'm looking forward to planting my garden this year. You can spruce up your yard with some great flowers and plants while also helping to fundraise for the school. Deadline to place your orders is: April 14th.
