Friday "Campfire" Circle On Friday we will be enjoying a special campfire circle where students will be sharing one artifact that best represents an interesting or exciting event from this past summer or something special or unique about them. It might be a souvenir from a trip, a photograph of them doing something fun, a book they read over the summer, a piece of sporting equipment that best represents their interests, etc. Students have the next two days to think about what artifact they would like to share. They will be presenting in French and some useful phrases they might use to get started are " Voici un/une...., J'ai choisis de vous montré.... Mon objet est spéciale parce que ...... J'ai apporté un/une....., Cet objet me représente parce que....". Fall Welcome Info Please check the dossier for an important MAP about the Fall Welcome on Friday morning from 7:15 - 8:00 am. We look forward to seeing all the parents at the school. The Grade 3 colour to wear this year is YELLOW! Problem Solving Strategy Today we were visited by Mme Harbinson the Resource Teacher and she spoke to us about problem solving. We learned about the "panneau de résolution" and we created skits to share with the class. Ask me what the 3 STEPS are to solving a problem. Today we had our first music class with Mme Zdrill. It was so awesome! Nous avons fais des mathématiques aussi. IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT LOST AND FOUND & LABELLING STUDENT BELONGINGS Please label your children's belongings (lunch kits, jackets, shoes, sweat shirts etc.) as we have already accumulated 25 items in the lost and found since school began 1 week ago. Many students have the same brand of clothing and items, so it would really help, if personal items could be labelled. Thank you! What Did I Learn in School Today? Today as we were writing the blog we saw a tree move past the window. What did you say? A tree past the window? Yes! A tree! Did you know that our outdoor learning space is being built? We are sooooo excited to see the transformation of our school yard and can't wait to use this space. Aujourd'hui nous avons appris à propos de le courage. We listened to a story about a little yellow leaf and how the leaf had to show courage to release itself from the tree. Did you know that everyone has courage? Yes! We all have courage inside of us and sometimes we can show courage on our own, but sometimes we need a friend to help us along the way. Just like the little yellow and little scarlet leaves in the story. We wrote about courage in our health duotangs and shared about a time when we showed courage and also about where we might show courage this year in grade three. READING IN ENGLISH Today was our first day doing silent reading in English. We reviewed the 5 Finger Rule for choosing a "just right book". We use the same strategy when choosing books in French. Here's a picture of it from our classroom. Welcome Back to Week Two! Today we had our first Physical Education class with M. Trevor. We played a game called "Capture the Flag". En français s'appelle "Drapeau". It was really fun! In Science, we started learning about Rocks and Minerals. We made "un tableau de DVA". Ask me what this means. We shared our ideas and looked at some books with a partner. "Nous avons appris que les minéraux sont dans et sur la terre". - PT3 Students Madame Ireland also introduced a class project called "L'élève de la semaine" and we started making our stars. Madame Ireland shared her star and we learned that Mme has a cat named Graycee. There is more information on School Messenger about this project. Please check your email. The project will begin on September 24th. First Assembly of the Year Today we had our first assembly of the year. We meet our new Assistant Principal. Her name is Mme. Courtney. The theme of our assembly was "courage". We also reviewed the three principles for school behaviour and how to behave during assemblies. Ask me what the 3 principles are? Respect for Self Respect for Others Respect for the Environment The grade six students did some funny skits about expected and non-expected behaviour. We had to choose which skit showed expected behaviour. Scholastics Today we are coming home with the September flyers for Scholastics. Please follow Mme. Ireland's instructions for ordering on-line. Due date for orders is September 19, 2018. Parent Questionnaires Please see your child's dossier for the Parent questionnaire. Please try to fill it out over the weekend and return on Monday. They did a colour matching activity, where keen observation skills were needed to find an exact match. They also played a "touch and go" game to emphasized how we can learn through tactile touch.
