Les mathématiques In math we looked at big numbers and counted by 100's. We learned that it easy to do when you already know how to count by 10's. We also explored base 10 blocks (les matériels de base dix) and created a triple digit number using the base 10 blocks. What BIG number did we talk about today? Science - Geologist Visit How lucky are we? Today we had a real Geologist in our classrooms talking about rocks, minerals, mining around the world and fossils. We got to touch a variety of tools used by Geologists in the field and touch and see a variety of rocks. Ask me what tools Geologists use to do their job! English Language Arts Today we looked at a new poem and explored the long and short "e" vowel sounds. Ask me to show you which words I found in the poem for each. We also looked at rhyming words. Can you find which ones we added to our word lists? We will continue to explore double vowel sounds and word families over the course of the week. CEPA - classe en plein air Last Friday we enjoyed writing about the wind in our journals while enjoying our outdoor classroom. "I like the wind right now because it is coming straight at me". Zachary " The wind blows the flags". - Kira " The wind is fun". - Noel "Did you know that the wind is so strong that it can blow humans, buildings and trees?' - Phoebe Gwen's Blog Post Aujourd'hui nous avons commencé nos Zentangles. J'aime le projet parce que j'aime faire l'art. En mathématiques on explores les GRANDS ensembles. Demande moi d'expliquer l'image en bas et où se trouve les régularités. Est ce qu'il y a un façon plus facile de compter les grands ensembles? Lockdown Practice Please ask me to tell you about our first Lockdown practice of the year, what my responsibilities are and what I need to do to stay safe. Constable Steve Ross was by today to help us with the drill. We did a great job! SANTÉ Aujourd'hui nous avons fait Cosmic Kids Yoga. Nous avons fait un adventure. Le yoga est très amusant et aussi bonne pour la santé et la flexibilité. ÉTUDES SOCIALES During Social Studies today we looked at global organizations like the United Nations, WE Day and the Red Cross. We know that these organizations help people when then get hurt, when they need food or relief from natural disasters or war. We discussed what ME to WE means. Ask me to tell you more. .En classe nous avons la chance d'écouter des histoires en ligne avec Tumblebooks. Students have opportunities in class during Daily 5 to listen to stories in French and English using the Tumblebooks App. If you are able, please send a pair of personal headphones/ear buds in a labelled ziplock bag so that your child may access this center. Using Tumblebooks helps build listening skills, vocabulary, a sense of story and allows students to explore a variety of books online. You can also access Tumblebooks at home using the following login information. Username: Calgarypl Password: sd19 Ask me about the three types of rocks in the rock cycle and what factors affect their changes. It's PHOTO DAY tomorrow! Look pretty and handsome for the camera! Today in Social Studies students were learning about the various countries in the world and how their locations impacts "Quality of Life". How does a country's geographic location or environment impact quality of life? Let's talk about this at home and I can share what I know, think and wonder. Elena's Blog Post Last week we made our little branches for Thanksgiving. We wrote about what we were thankful for. I really liked this project. I have a lot of things I am thankful for. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. Français
Aujourd'hui nous avons fais 5 au quotidien. Le son de la semaine c'est "eur". Ask me what words I know in French that contain this sound. Here's is the question of the day and it's a question for the parents: What are you thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving! Science Nous sommes des géologues! Students have been learning about the various properties of rocks and minerals. Yesterday they explored the properties of: shape/forme, colour/couleur texture/texture lustre/éclat Soon, students will also be "testing" the hardness/dureté, clevage/clivage and acid content/présence de carbonates to help identify a variety of rocks and minerals. English Language Arts Word Work through Poetry We are using poetry to explore long and short vowel sounds, word families and compound words. Students analyzed the following poem, listened to word clues to find the words of the week and were actively involved in creating personal work lists that demonstrated their understanding of long and short "a", "ing" words and compound words. As them to tell you more about the wonders of poems and all they have to teach us. Important Notice: Please let Mme Ireland know if you will be absent from school on Friday. Merci! Students have been learning about the different attributes used to identify rocks and minerals. They should be able to share at least 2 out of the 4 properties explored in class today. Think about the chart used during the lesson boys and girls and the "chasse au roches" activity to help explain this to your parents. Études Sociales
