MATH Exploring big numbers and skip counting Today students worked in groups to practice skip counting using 1000's charts. They practiced counting by 5, 10 and 100 from anywhere in the sequence. They also looked at forward and backward counting "compté par des sauts et comptè à rebours". Students then explored counting by 25 and the connections to counting money in this manner. They discovered a variety of similar ending patterns/numbers and corresponding operations involved when skip counting. Did you know that if you start at 21 and skip count forward by 5 that each number that follows will either end in a 1 or 6? Look: 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, 46 etc. Did you also know that 1+5 = 6 and 6-5 = 1. Do you see the pattern and fact families involved? November Scholastic Orders are due - November 26 (Monday after Conferences) Please get your orders in on time so we can get your books before the holidays. ART/ÉTUDES SOCIALES Nos dessins des animaux de l'Inde sont presque finis. Nous avons ajouté de la couleur avec les pastels d'huile. La prochaine étape c'est de les peinturer avec les aquarelles. Students have been enjoying the process of creating their India Animals using an initial sketch which they then re-drew onto watercolour paper. The next step was to add oil pastel colours. Soon they will add watercolour paint and finish off the project with a fact sheet called "Savais-tu", about their animal and it's significance to India. Comments are closed.
