Walking Field Trip - Bowmont Park Please remember that we are walking to Bowmont Park on Wednesday, October 24th for "Take Me Outside Day". What to Bring: This is a full morning (8:30 am - 12:30 pm), fresh air experience. Students will need a sturdy pair of running/walking or hiking shoes, a bag lunch, a snack, a water bottle, a hat and mitts and a backpack. Please remember to dress in layers (start with a t-shirt, then a hoodie/fleece and finally a windproof/waterproof jacket on top). Please do not send your child to school in boots, crocs or sandals as they will either be too heavy and uncomfortable or inappropriate for walking down dirt trails. Trip Details: Our journey will take us down Valiant Dr to the pedestrian footbridge over Shaganappi Trail to Voyageur Drive. We will then walk down 40 Ave NW all the way to the escarpment at 53 St NW. We will walk south along the escarpment to Bowmont Park. During our walk we will only cross roads at marked cross-walks and students will be divided into smaller groups with adult leaders in charge. Potential hazards during this trip include: vehicular traffic, pedestrians, cycle traffic, off leash dogs, other park users, the Bow River, wild animals and insects, felled trees, uneven ground, loose gravel, mud and thorny plants. We will spend the day exploring the park, learning about rocks, erosion and other land based learning topics. We will have our snack and lunch out on the trail and return to school following the same route, by 12:20 pm. If you have further questions, please speak to Mme Ireland. Our strategy this week is to skip tricky or unknown words, read on and then return and try again. By reading on we think the other words in the sentence will help us make sense of the tricky or new word. We also know that finger tracking, as well as chunking larger words into syllables (cut at the vowel) helps improve our reading and understanding. Comments are closed.
