ELA POEM PROJECT - please check your child's IRIS for a special poem they have written just for you! Thanks to Mme Pelleau for giving us this great idea. Students wrote a multi-stanza poem about their family, which they are eager to share with you.
Tunisia Day Celebration is tomorrow! We look forward to many exciting activities like creating mosaics, sampling some food and listening to music and stories. Please bring blanket for the floor.
MUSIC SHARE REMINDER Gwen, Beatrice, Noel and Kingston remember you have music share on Tuesday, June 11 (tomorrow)!
Youpie! Les larves sont ici! Today the Painted Lady Butterfly caterpillar larvae arrived. Students learned about their food, lifecycle and also how to care for them. Collectively we wrote a promise that will be posted in class, so that we can help our larvae develop into beautiful Painted Ladies. Pas d'école demain! Bonne fin de semaine! Special thanks to all the parents who contributed to the staff appreciation lunch today! It was delicious and very much appreciated! Pokémon Cards At School
Below is a message from Admin regarding Pokemon cards at school. We would like to remind students that NO trading of Pokémon may occur during school hours or on the bus. This is because trades are often not fair, and we spend a lot of time dealing with students who are sad because their favourite card was acquired by another student in a trade. If students have their Pokémon cards, they are to remain in their backpack until recess. At recess, they can may show, play, and “battle” with their cards, but they then they are asked to collect their own cards at the end and put them away right at the end of recess. Teacher’s, at their discretion may modify the recess play, especially if students are not handling the transition well and it begins impacting learning time. Nos attentes d'apprentissage/Our Learning Intentions for June Students wrote two learning intentions for June, one academic and one personal. Here are some examples that students shared. Socks, Socks, Socks Please remember to bring and OLD pair of socks tomorrow as we will be beginning our sewing project in the afternoon. Students will create a stuffed caterpillar to use as inspiration for their Diary of a Caterpillar Writing Project which will also coincide with our science unit on animal lifecycles. We have our fingers crossed that our caterpillar larvae arrive tomorrow! Tomorrow is our Teddy Bear Picnic with our Kindy Buddies. Remember your teddy bear and a blanket. We would like you to keep the blanket at school for the Tunisia Day Celebration on Thursday as there is an activity that requires you to sit on the floor, comfortably.
Les VIP's de la salle PT3 Students are enjoying their VIP days where they get to present something special in front of the classe and take questions. Students then self-evaluate their orale language skills in French with a focus on: Am I speaking clearly? Am I using the right volume to communicate? Am I speaking at an understandable speed? Am I expressing myself in well in French? SCIENCE - Students are learning about the different categories of animals and also how to use an identification key to classify them. Did you know that fish is it's own category and that whales are actually in the mammal category? Did you know amphibians have moist skin and lay their eggs in the water? Did you know that reptiles can live in the water and on land?
Diary of a Caterpillar ELA Project In combination with our lifecycles unit, students will be learning about Diary Writing. Drawing inspiration from the books of Doreen Cronin like "Diary of a Worm" Diary of a Spider", students will create a diary from the persepctive of their caterpillar. For further inspiration, students will create their very own "caterpillar stuffie" using an old pair of socks. Thank you Ralph for the idea! Students have been asked to source out an old pair a socks that can be used to create their stuffie. Mme Ireland will provide the thread, needles, pipe cleaners and buttons for decoration. Please have your materials ready by Wednesday, June 5th. ART REFLECTION - les structures Students are coming home today with their water colour structure project. The art was created with water colour pencils and sharpies. It reflects their understanding of shape and perspective. They also completed a self -evaluation on the back. Take a moment to have a chat about the process and reflections with your child. It is great to hear them talking about their work. June Music Share See Mme Zdrill's Weebly Page for more information about Music Share. It will run from June 3 - 25th, 2019 Your forms are due: June 10th, if you wish to participate. Classe en plein air - CEPA Nous avons passé une belle journée au Parc Recherche. Il y avait beaucoup de changements. L'étang est maintenant plein d'eau, il y a des canards et canetons, et les arbres sont plein de belles feuilles. Nous avons joué un jeu - Camouflage et appris comment les animaux doivent camouflager pour la protection. Nous avons aussi discuté les principes des adaptations des animaux. Merci à Mme Wendy et Mme Barb, nos bénévoles.
Classe en plein air - CEPA Monthly Walking Field Trip Tomorrow afternoon we will enjoy another glorious day outside at Research Park. Students are encouraged to bring the following:
LA SANTÉ/HEALTH - with Nurse Jen
Today our school nurse, Jen came in to talk to us about germs, hand washing and how to stay healthy. We did an experiment with "fake germs" and how hand washing is an important thing we can do to stay healthy. We learned that there are "good germs" in our body that help battle "bad germs", but that the germs in our body, need to stay in our body! Did you know that when you sneeze or cough and forget to do it into your elbow or sleeve, that those germs can travel up to a 5 meter radius? We measured our classroom and realized that one sneeze can take over the entire classroom. YUCK! Below are some photos of how those germs can like to hide in place like between our fingers and in our nails. |
