La Tunisie Today we had a guest speaker, Mme Ymène. She was born and raised in Tunisia and now lives in Calgary. She shared some amazing pictures and talked about many wonderful things about Tunisia. Did you know that she can speak English, French and Arabic? It was pretty cool to have her do the presentation in French and have her sing the alphabet in Arabic as well. We look forward to learning more about this fascinating country.

Your purchases through Scholastic also help build our classroom library full of amazing books. Deadline to place orders is Friday at noon! FLASHLIGHT FRIDAY LA LECTURE PAR LA LAMPE DE POCHE On Friday, students are invited to bring a flashlight, a blanket and their favourite book to read in the classroom. Mme Ireland was inspired by this idea during a PD that she went to at the Children's Reading Place in Inglewood last night. What a great way to inspire reading for everyone. Students are highly encouraged to visit the Children's Reading Place this summer with their families. It is an amazing experience. MATH Students are learning how to analyse data collected during a classroom survey. T Today they learned how to plot the data (les donnés) onto a linear plot (tracé linéaire). Students were then encouraged to design their own survey question, accumulate the data and then analyse it using a linear plot or bar graph (diagramme à bande). SCIENCE Students began a new topic in science last week. The lifecycles of animals. They began the unit with the following "BIG" question: Qu'est ce que c'est l'impact des humaines sur les cycles de vie des animaux? Students then did a world café style exercise where they circulated around the room and observed, interpreted and commented on a variety of photographs showing animals and animal habitats. Ask your child to tell you about the photos and how they prompted them to look at the "BIG" question. SCholastic ORDERS ARE DUE FRIDAY!!!Orders are due Friday, May 24th. There are plenty of books to read in class during silent reading, so no need to worry about a lack of reading time. La santé Le guide alimentaire Canadien Savais-tu que le guide alimentaire canadien à changer? Yes, it's true. The Canada Food Guide has gone through a change. Merci à tous les élèves de quatrième année pour une bonne journée! La gentillesse et les poèmes acrostiche - FLA Writing
During the month of May, students have been exploring the virtue of kindness, la gentillesse. In celebration of this, they created an acrostic poem in French using the words gentil, gentille or gentillesse. Ask them to tell you difference between each word. Did you know an acrostic poem is a poem written vertically using one word or theme and then words to describe that main word? Students had to use their dictionary skills to search for appropriate adjectives to describe kindness. Here are some examples of their work. The poems are coming home to share with you this weekend.
